Dr Mel Mazzarino (PhD)

Registered Nurse, Midwife & Childbirth Educator

Dr Mel Mazzarino is an experienced Registered Nurse and Midwife with more than 20 years experience supporting women and families throughout pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period. Her career spans clinical midwifery, education, maternity services management and university teaching, combining extensive hands on experience with a strong academic and research background.

Mel holds a Master of Clinical Midwifery and PhD, with her doctoral research investigating Pilates for pregnant women. She is also a qualified Pilates practitioner with specialised expertise in prenatal and postnatal exercise. Her research has been published in peer-reveiwed journals and continues to inform her evidence based approach to pregnancy and birth preparation.

With a particular interest in reducing fear and anxiety surrounding childbirth, Mel has undertaken further training in Hypnobirthing, active birth movement and traditional Rebozo techniques. Her approach incorporates breath-work, pelvic biomechanics, movement, positioning and mind-body techniques to help women feel informed, physically prepared and confident approaching birth.

At Elgin House, Mel supports our obstetric patients with antenatal midwifery care and leads our Birth Preparation Classes. These classes combine evidence based childbirth education with practical preparation for labour, vaginal and caesarean birth, pain relief options, breathing and relaxation, labour positions, pelvic floor preparation, partner support and the early postnatal period.

Warm, knowledgable and deeply committed to personalised care, Mel aims to ensure women and their support people approach birth feeling informed, supported and empowered, whatever their birth journey may be.
